Severe drought conditions in central Alberta are prompting farmers to reconsider their water usage, with some areas receiving less than 40% of normal precipitation in October. Agroclimate specialist Trevor Hadwen highlighted exceptional drought conditions around the Peace River area, raising concerns about water supply for agriculture and municipalities. Canola farmer Andre Harpe expressed worries about low crop yields and is taking precautionary measures due to unprecedented dryness. The Alberta government has allocated $25 million to improve water management and infrastructure as part of its Drought and Flood Protection Program.
