Failure in Ukraine ‘will remake the world,’ UK and Poland warn deadlocked US – POLITICO

The joint plea comes as U.S. Republicans continue to hold out on a fresh funding agreement for the war-torn country, and as European capitals mull their options to constrain Moscow amid signs of fatigue two years on.

“This war is the biggest test of our generation,” the pair write. “A wholly unprovoked invasion. A blatant threat to our collective security. The clearest example of one country trying to extinguish the independence of another.

“Other adversaries are watching how we respond. Will we stand with Ukraine? Will we stand up to Putin’s naked aggression? The consequences of failure will not just be felt in Ukraine — they will remake the world as we know it.”

Cameron, a former British prime minister-turned-foreign-secretary, got short shrift earlier this month when he traveled to Washington to try to drum up support for Ukraine. U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, an ally of Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, told the U.K.’s top diplomat to “kiss my ass.”

But Cameron and Sikorski, who serves as foreign affairs point-man in Donald Tusk’s administration, quote 1996 American comedy film Jerry Maguire as they urge the U.S. and allies to “show me the money.”

“Britain and the EU have committed more funding to Ukraine, and we believe it is in the interest of America — and all of our allies — to do the same,” they write.

Last year, Donald Trump claimed he could resolve the Ukraine War in "24 hours," but after a recent call with Vladimir Putin, he stated peace negotiations should occur between Russia and Ukraine, possibly with the Pope's assistance. While Trump remains optimistic, suggesting negotiations for a ceasefire could start soon, Putin emphasized addressing the war's "root causes." Concerns grow regarding the U.S.'s potential withdrawal from negotiations and support for Ukraine, which could empower Russia, as Ukrainian...

Mortgage Rates Surge Following Moody's DowngradeThe average interest rate for a 30-year mortgage has risen above 7% for the first time since April, triggered by Moody's downgrade of the U.S. credit rating due to growing debt concerns. Although the rate slightly eased to about 6.99%, elevated mortgage rates are expected to persist amid record-high home prices and a lack of affordable properties, with only 20% of homes listed being affordable for households earning $75,000. Experts...

Geologists in Mississippi discovered a fossilized lumbar vertebra believed to belong to a mosasaur, a marine apex predator from the Late Cretaceous period. The vertebra, estimated to be from a 30 to 40-foot-long specimen, was found during a sampling expedition south of Starkville, revealing the distinct shape indicative of a mosasaur. This finding is particularly significant as it represents the largest mosasaur fossil encountered in the region, which is known for its rich fossil record....

US Legislation Against Revenge Porn and DeepfakesPresident Donald Trump has signed the Take It Down Act, criminalizing the non-consensual posting of "intimate images," including deepfake content, requiring tech companies to remove such content within 48 hours. Although the bill received bipartisan support, critics, including digital rights groups, argue it may lead to censorship of legitimate content and threaten free expression and privacy rights. A Delaware animal shelter is caring for thousands of chicks abandoned in a postal truck for three days, leading to many deaths before their discovery on May 2. The USPS acknowledged a process breakdown and is investigating how 12,000 chicks were left at a mail distribution center, with the hatchery unable to reclaim them due to biosecurity concerns. Currently, over 2,000 surviving chicks are at the shelter, and while adoptions have begun, financial strain is...
