Former Port Hedland mayor Kelly Howlett has been advocating for the Town of Port Hedland council to be placed under government-appointed administration, citing dysfunction and a lack of community support, especially following the recent resignation of Mayor Peter Carter. She proposed a model with three commissioners, including a local leader, to restore governance and community confidence, while former mayor Camilo Blanco and others are calling for a special meeting to pass the town’s budget instead of appointing a commissioner.
