Scotland is to be battered by a fresh deluge of rain as new weather maps show more downpours are on the way.

Following a week of varying conditions, the latest WX Chart data anticipates grim weather covering a large part of the country starting this weekend, with more rain to come next week. Maps also predict partial snow in concentrated areas, with temperatures to fall into wintry conditions.

On Saturday, a band of light precipitation stretches across the far northwest this Saturday at noon, this is set to clear, but things are set to change later that night until Sunday morning. Figures indicate up to 62 millimetres could fall within the 12-hour time frame.

Starting at midnight, a band of will stretch from as far north as Stornoway all the way to Glasgow and the Western Isles, narrowly missing Kirkwall, Aberdeen and Dundee. Lasting until midday, up to three centimetres of snow is also set to fall in more inward regions, namely between the Highlands and Fort William, with lows of 0C predicted.

This is to settle by the afternoon, with the rest of the day remaining clear across the country, save for a light dusting of snow in central Scotland, which will also ease up. However, Scots can expect more wet weather from early Monday morning as a new wet weather front migrates northwards, lasting until Tuesday, March 26.

On this day, conditions are to ramp up further, with up to 96 millimetres forecast to fall over the Highlands and Argyle & Bute. This is to easy by Thursday morning, with scattered patches of rain indicated in varying locations in the following days.

It comes as the Met Office also anticipates wet weather for Scotland on Sunday, while conditions are to clear up in other parts of the UK.

Speaking on the weekend forecast, Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill reported: “Through the evening and overnight there will be some wet weather for a time but that then clears away towards the east as we go through Sunday morning.

“For many it’s not looking too wet, yes perhaps a few outbreaks of rain could be a little bit heavy across parts of Northern Ireland into Scotland too and then there will be a scattering of showers elsewhere.”
