German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, during his visit to Tonga, called for increased European support for Pacific island nations threatened by climate change, highlighting issues like rising sea levels and extreme weather. He met with local leaders, emphasizing that investment in climate resilience is crucial. Wadephul noted Germany’s contribution of $5.9 million to the Pacific Island Forum’s climate fund and mentioned the establishment of the Pacific Resilience Facility in Tonga.
