EU vows US tariffs 'will not go unanswered' and will trigger tough countermeasures

European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU will respond to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum with tough countermeasures to protect its economic interests, workers, businesses, and consumers. She emphasized that tariffs are detrimental to business and consumers, and unjustified tariffs on the EU will result in firm and proportionate retaliatory actions. Von der Leyen’s statement comes in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminum.
