The EU has urged member states to respond to Lebanon’s request for medical supplies following Israeli strikes in the southern part of the country, as Lebanon’s healthcare system is strained by continued hostilities and a collapse of infrastructure. EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides and Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarčič have called on member states to deliver medical aid through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, coordinating the response to provide urgent assistance to Lebanon’s healthcare system. The Mechanism, established in 2001, facilitates collaboration between EU member states and 10 partners to enhance disaster prevention and response efforts globally, ensuring a swift and collaborative approach to address emergencies.
