The European Union will not renew a fishing agreement with Senegal due to the country being labeled as a “non-cooperating country” in the fight against illegal fishing. Senegal’s government has not yet responded to the decision, which will result in European vessels leaving Senegalese waters and the country no longer receiving financial contributions under the agreement. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who promised to renegotiate the agreement, has not released the results of an audit on the fishing sector and the EU-Senegal agreement.
