Winner Announced in Illinois District Previously Held by Longtime Democrat

Kat Abughazaleh, a far-left social media influencer and former Media Matters journalist, has lost her bid in the Democratic primary to replace retiring Rep. Jan Schakowsky in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District. Abughazaleh, part of a new wave of progressive Gen Z activists, was defeated by Daniel Biss, the current mayor of Evanston. The district is heavily Democratic, and the primary’s winner is expected to secure the general election in November.
