‘Essential services’ still sparse in Libya’s flood-ravaged Derna

One year after a devastating wall of water swept through Derna, Libya, killing thousands and causing widespread destruction, reconstruction efforts are underway. However, essential services remain lacking, according to NGOs. The catastrophe, triggered by extreme rainfall from Storm Daniel in September 2023, resulted in nearly 4,000 fatalities, thousands missing, and over 40,000 displaced residents.
