END OF THE ROPE: Meet Canada’s last denizens of death row

The last two men executed in Canada were Detroit pimp Arthur Lucas and cop killer Ronald Turpin in December 1962. After 1967, only cop and jail guard killers were eligible for the death penalty before it was abolished in 1976. Real Chartrand, a violent criminal, killed Const. Gabriel Labelle during a robbery in 1971.
