Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander announced a significant upgrade to mobile connectivity on UK trains, aiming to eliminate frustrating blackspots by deploying ultra-fast fibre optic cables across 1,000km of major rail lines and providing signal access in 57 tunnels. The project, expected to start next year and finish by 2028, is part of a broader strategy that includes a £41 million investment in low-earth-orbit satellite connectivity to enhance WiFi for passengers.
