Empress crown damaged by thieves at the Louvre

On October 19, 2025, thieves executed a brazen heist at the Louvre Museum, stealing eight priceless treasures valued at £76 million, including the crown of Empress Eugenie de Montijo, which was damaged during the escape. Although the crown is “badly deformed” and missing some jewels, the museum announced on February 4, 2026, that it can be fully restored. All four suspects have been arrested, but the mastermind remains unidentified. The stolen items were not insured, leaving France without compensation for the loss.
