South Texas voters, primarily SpaceX employees, have overwhelmingly approved a measure to establish Starbase as a new city in Cameron County, with a vote tally of 212–6. The election followed a petition that allowed 283 eligible voters, of which about 60% were linked to SpaceX, to participate; the city’s leadership will also be closely tied to the company. Following the vote, Elon Musk celebrated the city’s formation, which may grant SpaceX greater control over its Boca Chica Beach launch site, especially as legislative changes could streamline the process for beach closures necessary for launches.
