A British woman, Janet Taylor, 68, and New Zealander Alison Taylor, 67, were killed by an elephant during a walking safari in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park; the animal, which was wounded by gunfire, charged at them while protecting its calf. Local authorities noted that aggressive responses from female elephants with young are common, and two American women also died in similar incidents last year.
