In Robert Eggers’ personal take on the iconic vampire story “Nosferatu,” the focus shifts to the female protagonist Ellen, played by Lily-Rose Depp. Set in 1838 Germany, Ellen’s encounter with the vampire Count Orlok leads to a haunting tale of possession and societal constraints on women’s autonomy. As Orlok’s bloodlust is unleashed, Ellen’s husband Thomas, played by Nicholas Hoult, must save her from the vampire’s grasp. Bill Skarsgård delivers a chilling performance as Orlok, embodying disease, death, and sex in a brutal and unforgiving manner that creates a sense of claustrophobic terror for the characters and the audience.
