Bilateral investment treaties (BITs), once seen as a means to attract foreign direct investment by protecting investors, have failed and need to be reformed, as they often lead to prolonged and costly arbitration processes. An alternative called the Investment Insurance Initiative (3i) is proposed, particularly for countries like Argentina, which, despite its troubled past, has potential for significant foreign investment in sectors like energy and mining.
