ECan looking into holding well testing events

At a regional council meeting, Christchurch South/Ōwhanga councillor Vicky Southworth proposed region-wide water testing events for private well owners, which passed 8-7. The goal is to raise awareness of water quality risks and ensure safety, with concerns raised about differing opinions on water safety standards. Despite existing testing programs in Ashburton, a report will assess the need for additional testing events and available budget, addressing personal responsibility for well owners and ECan’s role in education and testing.
