Seventy southern white rhinos moved by truck and airliner as part of major rewilding effort involving South Africa and Rwanda.
In a significant rewilding initiative, 70 southern white rhinos have traveled over 3,400 kilometers from South Africa to Rwanda’s Akagera National Park, marking the largest translocation of its kind. The rhinos were transported in two batches of 35, first by air and then by truck, with a veterinary team monitoring their adaptation post-release. This effort aims to establish a breeding stronghold and support the population growth of white rhinos, which are currently listed as “near threatened” due to poaching and habitat loss.
