A double murderer, Rodney Michael Cherry, 65, failed to overturn Queensland’s “no body, no parole” laws in a high court ruling. Convicted in 2002 for the murders of his wife, Annette, and stepdaughter, Kira, Cherry’s appeal argued the laws improperly conferred judicial power to the parole board; however, the court upheld that these laws do not impose additional punishment and affirmed that his life sentence and parole eligibility could be amended by legislation. Consequently, Cherry was ordered to pay legal costs, with support for the laws voiced by various state attorneys general.
