32 dolphins have died since an oil spill near southern Russia, experts say

Rescuers and volunteers are working to clean up tons of fuel oil spilled from two storm-stricken tankers in the Kerch Strait near Anapa in Russia’s Krasnodar region. Thirty-two dolphins have died since the spill, with an animal rescue group attributing the deaths to the fuel oil. Over 96,000 tons of contaminated sand and soil have been removed from the shoreline, with Russian President Vladimir Putin calling the spill an “ecological disaster” in the important global shipping route that has been a point of conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
