Derrick Groves, the last inmate from a New Orleans jailbreak, was sentenced to two life terms for a 2018 double murder. Captured after five months on the run, Groves escaped with nine others through a hole behind a jail toilet, leaving graffiti behind. The judge criticized his lack of remorse and noted the impact of his actions on victims’ families, while Groves’ attorney plans to appeal his convictions. In addition to the life sentences, Groves received 100 years for attempted murder charges.
