Democrat Christian Menefee won a Texas U.S. House seat in a special election, replacing the late Rep. Sylvester Turner, and pledging to oppose President Trump’s agenda. Menefee, who previously served as Harris County attorney, beat Amanda Edwards in a runoff after their primary election saw no majority winner among 16 candidates. He emphasized health care reform and immigration enforcement during his victory speech. Both candidates will face off again in a Democratic primary in March 2024 for a full term starting in 2027.
