Zohran Mamdani has made history as New York City’s first Muslim mayor, inaugurated at the Old City Hall subway station, reflecting his commitment to the working class. Aged 34, he is also the first South Asian and African-born mayor, born in Uganda. Mamdani, who won with over 50% of the vote, plans a celebratory public inauguration with a block party and livestream viewing areas. He will move to Gracie Mansion, the official mayoral residence, following his oath.
