Five killed in avalanches in western Austria

At least five people were killed in a series of avalanches in western Austria due to intense snowfall and unstable snowpack conditions. The Tyrol region reported that on Friday, five off-piste skiers were caught in a large avalanche in St. Anton am Arlberg, including an American and a Pole among the deceased. Additionally, a German man was killed while skiing with his son, who survived with injuries, and a Swiss snowboarder died in Vorarlberg. The Tyrol governor noted that 11 people have lost their lives in avalanches this month, with ongoing turbulent weather posing further risks.
