WASHINGTON

Brian Schwalb, the D.C. Attorney General, has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration’s takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department, arguing that the administration’s executive orders overstep legal boundaries and threaten the District’s self-governance. Schwalb contends that Trump’s authority only allows for temporary service requests in emergencies, and the actions undermine the autonomy of D.C. residents.
