WWII pilot accounted for 82 years after being credited with saving airman’s life in deadly crash
A World War II pilot, Army Air Forces 1st Lt. Charles W. McCook, has been accounted for after being missing since his plane crash on August 3, 1943, during a bombing mission in Burma. McCook, who helped two fellow servicemen survive the crash by ensuring they could parachute to safety, was posthumously awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
