Members of the Dampier Peninsula Fire Working Group convened at One Arm Point Community to assess their wildfire management efforts during a challenging late dry season. The collaborative approach, involving traditional owners and various organizations, emphasized early dry-season burning, which effectively reduced the impact of late-season fires. Ewan Noakes from the Department of Biodiversity highlighted the success of this coordinated action, while Nyul Nyul ranger Preston Cox underscored the importance of traditional burning practices. The group’s achievements were recognized with a runner-up position at the 2025 WA Biodiversity Awards for culturally informed fire management.
