At least 59 people have died and 15 are missing following Cyclone Gezani’s strike on Madagascar, according to the National Bureau for Risk and Disaster Management. The cyclone displaced over 16,000 individuals and injured 804, while nearly 424,000 were affected. Gezani, which had winds reaching 185 km/h, follows Tropical Cyclone Fytia, which had previously killed 14 and displaced over 31,000. Authorities have issued a red alert for the Ampanihy district as Gezani is expected to make a second landfall.
