In 2024, cyber crimes in Mumbai have surged by 350%, with citizens losing Rs1,181 crore in just 11 months, compared to Rs262.51 crore in 2023. Investment fraud and task job fraud cases have seen a significant rise, with only Rs139.15 crore (11.77%) of the total losses recovered. The low recovery rate is attributed to delays in reporting incidents, challenges in obtaining information, and criminals operating from other states and abroad.
