The Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) is set to take place in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, a shift from its originally planned mid-year schedule to avoid conflicts with the expanded FIFA Club World Cup. This will be the tournament’s first December edition, with matches hosted in several Moroccan cities, excluding 25 December. Coaches, however, express frustration over the short preparation time for teams, as players are released only a week prior. The last summer Afcon was held in 2019 in Egypt, with recent tournaments typically scheduled between January and February.
