'The doors are open for IS' – Syria's Kurds warn over advance by Turkish-backed forces

Syria’s Kurds warn of the re-emergence of the Islamic State (IS) threat, citing increased activity and a doubled danger of resurgence. General Mazloum Abdi of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reports IS seizing arms and ammunition and a real threat of militants breaking into SDF-run prisons holding thousands of detainees. Turkish-backed forces’ attacks on SDF forces have diverted attention from counter-terrorism operations against IS, heightening the risk of an IS comeback.
