President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, in power since 1986, is increasingly reliant on the Special Forces Command (SFC), viewed as a private army to maintain his regime amid allegations of violence against opposition. The SFC, led by Museveni’s son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has expanded significantly and is suspected of undermining democratic processes as Uganda approaches the 2026 election.
