Cavanagh, a spiritualist who believes in communicating with the dead, was taken aback by the vicar’s comments, which she deemed bullying. Despite the controversy, she received widespread community support and was nominated for a UK Small Business Award shortly after opening her shop. The Diocese of Newcastle has since contacted both parties regarding the incident.
