A homeless man, Ioan Pintaru, 33, was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order after stabbing an 11-year-old girl in Leicester Square during a random attack. The girl, who was on a trip from Australia, suffered multiple wounds and believed she was going to die as Pintaru put her in a headlock and attacked her. Although he admitted to wounding with intent, the court accepted that his psychosis prevented proof of intent to kill. The victim has since recovered physically, but the psychological trauma remains.
