Mali junta dissolves all political parties in latest opposition crackdown

Mali’s military junta has dissolved all political parties as part of a growing crackdown on dissent following its power seizure. Military leader Assimi GoΓ―ta, who has promised to remain in power for at least five more years, has intensified restrictions on political activities, leading to protests and the abduction of opposition leaders. The junta’s recent actions, including a recommendation to extend GoΓ―ta’s presidency until 2030 and the suspension of political activities, have sparked condemnation from opposition groups and human rights advocates, while Mali has distanced itself from Ecowas amid calls for a return to democratic governance.
