A 40-year-old gang member, Hone Haunui Neal, was shot by police in a Hamilton carpark following an armed standoff after allegedly presenting a gun to officers. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Waikato Hospital. Neal and his co-accused, 29-year-old Hope Waimata Waitere, appeared in Hamilton District Court facing charges of kidnapping, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and aggravated burglary.
