Three sisters drown in migrant boat in Mediterranean, rescuers say

Three young sisters, aged nine, 11, and 17, drowned in a rubber boat carrying migrants in the central Mediterranean after it became dangerously overcrowded and began taking on water. While about 65 people were rescued, including their mother and brother, many survivors suffered severe chemical burns, and over 700 have died attempting to cross this route from North Africa this year.
