Judge David Burns considered the parents’ conflicting proposals regarding their son’s schooling, with the father advocating for a mainstream school while the mother wanted him to remain at a full immersion te reo Māori kura. After a Family Court hearing, the judge ruled in favor of the mother’s preference, citing the boy’s own desire to stay at the kura and the expert opinion that continuing in te reo Māori education would be beneficial for him.
