Lake Hood has been closed to the public due to an algal bloom and cyanobacteria toxins, with the Ashburton District Council making the decision following health warnings issued in March. Chief Executive Hamish Riach emphasized the health risks posed by the toxins, leading to the closure of the lake and the jumping platform, with alternative venues being considered for an upcoming event. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid contact with the water due to potential symptoms of exposure, and animals should also be kept away from the lake until the health warning is lifted.
