During the murder trial of Brandy Cooney and Becky Hamber, charged with the first-degree murder of a 12-year-old boy known as L.L., psychiatrist Dr. Shelinderjit Dhaliwal testified that she urged the couple to seek emergency medical help for L.L. multiple times before his 2022 death, which they refused. L.L. was severely malnourished and had been showing signs of deteriorating health, including an inability to eat. He was found unresponsive in his basement bedroom, and although the cause of death remained undetermined, malnutrition or hypothermia were not ruled out.
