Two residents of Texada Island, Kody Bevan and Seneca Antony, were convicted for failing to report the killing of a grizzly bear in July 2025, receiving $3,000 fines each. The bear, which had been relocated twice due to problematic behavior, sparked controversy among residents about its fate. Local First Nations had plans to relocate the bear again when it was shot. Conservation officers stated that $4,000 of the fines would be donated to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation.
