Claude, a 25-year-old Congolese refugee in Burundi’s Musenyi camp, faces starvation and violence as food rations have drastically decreased due to cuts in international aid, with his monthly rice allowance dropping from 3.5kg to 1kg. The camp, now housing nearly double its intended capacity of 10,000, is plagued by rising tensions and theft as desperate refugees seek food, while NGOs have halted support for survivors of sexual violence. With the World Food Programme warning of an impending end to assistance without renewed funding, many refugees may be forced to return to the violent DRC in search of sustenance.
