The death toll from a recent boat fire and capsizing in the Democratic Republic of Congo has reached 148, with over 100 people still unaccounted for. The wooden boat, carrying about 500 passengers, caught fire while cooking onboard and capsized on the Congo River near Mbandaka, leading to many fatalities, particularly among those who jumped into the water. Senator Jean-Paul Boketsu Bofili highlighted the lack of humanitarian assistance for over 150 survivors suffering from severe burns, condemning the frequent deadly boat accidents in the region.
