Colombian President Gustavo Petro accused Peru of unlawfully annexing Santa Rosa Island, a contentious area between the two nations, following Peru’s congressional vote to designate it as a district. Colombia claims the island based on historical treaties and argues that its emergence is beyond those treaties, asserting that Peru’s actions threaten the Colombian city of Leticia’s access to the river.
