US cancels visas for South Sudanese over deportation dispute

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the immediate revocation of visas for all South Sudanese passport holders due to the nation’s refusal to accept repatriated citizens from the US. Rubio also stated that South Sudanese citizens will be blocked from entering the US at ports of entry, citing the transitional government’s failure to timely accept returnees. This decision comes amid fears of renewed civil war in South Sudan and follows the expiration of Temporary Protected Status for its citizens in the US.
