Scientists are investigating the volcanic risks beneath Santorini, a popular Greek island known for its stunning views and tourism. Recent earthquakes prompted concerns over the region’s two main volcanoes, Santorini and Kolumbo, leading to a research mission aboard the British research ship Discovery, led by Prof. Isobel Yeo. The expedition aims to map hazardous areas, collect data on underwater volcanic activity, and enhance understanding of potential eruptions, emphasizing the urgent need to monitor these often-overlooked underwater volcanoes.
