The first oil painting ever exhibited by Turner, titled “The Rising Squall,” will be auctioned after being lost for over 150 years. This artwork depicts a view of a former hot spring and spa in Bristol, seen from the east bank of the River Avon, prior to the construction of Clifton Suspension Bridge. Returned to the UK after traveling the world, the painting was recognized as a Turner masterpiece only after its signature was uncovered during a cleaning last year; it will be displayed at Sotheby’s in London from 28 June to 1 July, with an estimated auction value of up to ÂŁ300,000.
