Iranian security forces have violently arrested Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi, a women’s rights activist, in Mashhad, according to her foundation. The Nobel Committee expressed deep concern over her arrest and called for her immediate release and safety. Mohammadi, who had previously been temporarily released from Tehran’s Evin prison, was attending a memorial for a deceased lawyer when detained alongside other activists. Her husband described the arrest as an act of revenge amid intensified repression in Iran.
