Climate change contributed to the devastating Los Angeles fires this month, with hot, dry conditions and powerful winds fueling the flames, according to a study by 32 researchers. Greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels made these conditions 35 percent more likely, and the risk of such fires will continue to increase unless climate change is addressed. The study conducted by the World Weather Attribution initiative also found that if the planet warms by another 1.3 degrees Celsius, similar extreme weather events become even more probable, highlighting the urgent need for action to prevent future disasters.
